Dog And Car

Most dog owners use their car to transport their dog for a trip, or a vacation, or just to have it with them, or even out of necessity, such as a visit to the vet.
There is a very small percentage of owners who do not move their dog at all, and even the veterinarian himself comes to the house or the animal area.

The first contact

If a puppy learns the car from a young age, all is well, if not you need to follow some tactics.
Usually, their first contact with the car is not the best as it is combined with the removal from the mother and their siblings, while then the veterinarian, the vaccines and the pain continue.
Try the first move of your little favorite friend to hug someone or in a cage to feel safe. Do not “throw” it in the trunk, nor free in the back seat of the car, nor on the floor in the passenger seat, because it is dangerous to get entangled in our feet while driving.

If the nausea is due to stress

If your dog already has a problem with nausea, put him in the car and delay starting. If you see that he has salivation, then the reason is stress and not movement.
If your dog has this problem, start putting it in the car for 5 minutes without moving it and then play with it. After a few days, drive short distances for 5 minutes and go somewhere for the dog for a walk or a game. Later, increase the duration of the car until it gets used to it. The younger the dog, the easier it will be to do so.

Open or closed windows?

There are some who open the window and the dog pulls his head out of the car and sometimes both of his legs, causing half of them to hang out. Measure possible health, respiratory or eye problems, as well as safety if he is in danger of being hit by a motorcycle or if the dog is “mysterious” to bite a motorcycle driver or pedestrian at a traffic light. There’s even a chance he’ll jump out of the car if he sees something that might catch his eye, like another dog or cat.
Pay special attention to the open windows in the car. If you stop somewhere and get out of the car for a while, the dog may jump out of the window and follow you, with all the dangers involved. In car accessories you will find a grid that looks like a plant pergola, it rests easily on the window and the dog can get air without getting out, but also without being able to put his hand inside.
The deaths of forgotten dogs in cars during the summer months, due to the negligence of their owners, I think is a hard lesson for all of us.
At long distances, especially in the summer, make a stop for your and your dog to unwind. In the summer months you have to have an air conditioning. You also prefer to travel in the afternoon to evening or very early in the morning to avoid the heat.

Convenient comfort and safety

If you do not want your dog to leave hair in the seat, lay a sheet or some similar accessories, which are commercially available.
Train your dog before he gets in the car to learn to sit and wait and do the same when he gets out, and not as soon as the door opens to have the “big escape”.
There are some dogs that are very anxious along the way, move up and down in the car and often bark incessantly and annoyingly. In these cases you can tie it with a patent or using a strap, the end of which is like a buckle and can be inserted into the socket of the seat belt. You can also use a net that circulates in the market and prevents the dog from coming to the front of the car.
Also, the cage is a safe but bulky solution. Of course, all this applies if you have not taught your dog to sit quietly.
It is best to place the dog in the back seat to be more comfortable and if he is constantly trying to get ahead, tie him up.
To save space, if there is a family, in some small cars, if we take the heater out of the trunk we can put our dog there, so that it is our company but also takes air normally.
Sliding trunks or hanging on the back of the car are very helpful in saving space, but the dog is exposed even to a very small crash.
Finally, we have to let the dogs know that we are going somewhere by car to have a good time, to be happy, but at the same time obedient and to have the behavior of a co-driver and fellow traveler in order to be pleasant and our close and usually necessary movements , but also travel.
